Story arc Development
for Designing Real World Scenarios

Tool: Miro

This session is dedicated to exploring the first stage of our design-based research: creating a story arc for a digital storytelling-driven gamification scenario. By integrating creative storytelling with educational objectives, we aim to foster students' problem-solving skills through engaging narratives and interactive learning experiences.

Crafting the Story Arc
The story arc is the backbone of any successful digital storytelling-driven assessment scenario. Our journey begins with a brainstorming session on Miro, where we define the central theme that guides the entire story. We outline key characters, settings, and events to construct a compelling narrative that resonates with learners and aligns with our educational goals.
As you create the story arc, consider the following elements:

-
Settings: Establish diverse settings that reflect real-world scenarios or imaginative landscapes. These settings create a backdrop for students to explore and learn.
-
Characters: Develop relatable characters that students can connect with. These characters will guide learners through the gamified scenarios, offering advice and presenting challenges.
-
Plot: Design events that drive the narrative forward. Include branching paths and interactive elements that encourage students to make choices, face challenges, and think critically.
-
Moral: Integrate a central moral that resonates with both real-life and fantastical elements. This moral serves as the core lesson, guiding students through a journey of ethical understanding and personal growth within the context provided by the story's setting.
